It has been said that for every five homes in the United States, one is broken into every twelve months. Physical assaults occur in more than half of these break ins. Some of these people are raped or even murdered. While I don't claim to know how the Department of Justice gets these numbers or if they are even accurate, I do know that it is good to be prepared either way.
One of the best ways to be prepared is to install a security system. When you have an alarm system in place, you have some time to get ready before the intruders make their way to your bedroom. I've heard many stories of people that scared away would be criminals just with the sound of their alarm systems going off.
There are many companies that will install and monitor these systems for you on a regular basis. Unfortunately, these companies charge you a monthly fee and can lead to burglary themselves. When you allow a stranger into your home to set up your security system, you may be putting yourself at risk.
The best way to avoid this is to go ahead and install your own do it yourself home security systems. Installing your own system will give you full control over the installation and will keep strangers out of your home. Also, you need not concern yourself with a business that may drill large holes in places you don't want them to simply to get the alarm system where it needs to be.
With diy systems you don't even need to concern yourself with recurring bills. These systems can be setup so that they call your cell phone while you are away and your friends and neighbors while you are home. In my opinion, close family members and trusted friends will always do a better job keeping you safe than some stranger sitting in a security booth in another state.
Don't be scared when it comes to setting up your own do it yourself home security systems. The companies that make these systems do a great job making things easy for the diy'er. As far as tools go, you probably won't need anything other than a little drill and a decent screw driver.
