You Don't Need A Security System To Keep Your Home Safe

The best way to secure your home is with a home security system, the only problem is they can run anywhere from a few hundred dollars, to thousands for all of the options that are now offered. The funny thing about home invasions is that they have not changed at all over the years. Criminals still use the same methods to break into your home now, as they always have. Statistics tell us that 63% of burglaries involve forcible entry, which means if you focus on protecting your home from forced entry, your odds of being burglarized drop dramatically.

People that make a living burglarizing people, have three main enemies, time, light and noise. When you purchase a home security system, you create much larger enemies for burglars. If your system is monitored, the burglar knows that his time in your home has to be very fast, because the police are dispatched and on their way. And when the alarms start ringing, this is enough to make these criminals run away at top speed.

Since most burglaries take place in the daytime, light should not be confused with the morning or afternoon. Think of it as another term for exposure. If the burglar can be seen by passers-by or your neighbors, this could discourage him from picking your house as a target.

Here are some tips so you can serve as a burglar's worst enemy without the aid of high-tech equipment:

Purchase dead bolt locks for all entrances to your home. When a lock is dead bolted, this could really frustrate burglars and cause them to make a lot of noise while trying to force open your door.

Replace all doors with windows at the back of your house. This is probably the easiest way into your home. That's because the glass windows can easily be opened to give burglars easy access to the doorknob.

Never leave a ladder in your back yard. Criminals know that second floor windows a rarely locked.

Make sure you trim all bushes and shrubbery near your ground floor windows. This removes the possibility of burglars using the thick shrubs as a hiding place before breaking in.

For the darkest parts of your home, motion sensor lights can help you track intruders.

Keep your doors locked especially when you're home. This too applies if you're at home, because a burglar would always check first whether a door is locked or not. The last thing you want is an unwelcome guest in your home just because you didn't lock the door. These things are unfortunately very common these days.
