Motion sensors are some of the most commonly used home protection devices used anywhere, because of its efficiency in inhibiting possible hazards. As the term implies, motion detectors are triggered when it senses a certain movement within the area it reaches. It could apply either microwave sensors or infrared sensors.
Microwave sensors spring microwaves off of anything within its reach, and then gauges the frequency of the waves bouncing back. If anything that the microwave detector reaches unexpectedly shifts, it would of course show a different frequency. This is how intruder alarms that use microwave sensors work. Once an intruder comes within your territory, the microwaves bouncing off of his motion will automatically trigger an alarm. The best thing about applying microwaves is that it will penetrate any wall, thus widening the scope that it covers. This is also equal to the fact that you can place these sensors out of sight behind other objects. These sensors can be too sensitive though, and could easily be affected by other electrical devices like radios, or even by lightning.
Infrared sensors are more common, since they are cheaper compared to microwave sensors, and could be more accurate. They simply gauge the warmth in a specific area, and set off the alarm once it discovers a change in temperature at a specific location that may announce the existence of an intruder. Unlike microwave sensors though, it could only cover a given area and does not really cover a whole room. You could apply different types of lenses to try to make the range wider though, as some lenses could cover greater distances compared to others.
With both of the two having their own advantages and disadvantages, some security systems combine the best of both to improve on its reliability. Dual technology has become more popular, since they lessen the frequency of false alarms. This system could also be adjusted to be pet sensitive, as pets and other animals are known to trigger false alarms often. The pet is usually made to walk around during the installation process, so that the needed adjustments could be made on the system.
Motion sensors are absolutely one of the most efficient devices that you could apply to your home security alarm. Having different types of motion sensors can considerably improve your home protection, and could keep your family and your home more secure.
