How Wireless Security Cameras Work

Wireless security cameras are partially concealed cameras that could be useful if you want to go the stealthy route. There are banks that use both wireless and wired cameras, both visible and hidden as a two-pronged attempt to discourage potential burglars, but take pictures of them even with the wired cameras off.

Las Vegas casinos do the same. Next time you enter a bank or casino, observe closely. You would notice visible cameras that would serve mainly for show purposes. However, it's more than just show, as it also serves as a means to intimidate thieves from even thinking of doing anything in the establishment. The owners of these establishments want you to see these cameras and they want you to think twice about doing anything naughty in their places of business.

And of course, we have hidden cameras. Almost always wireless so they can be placed anywhere, they photograph through small holes in the walls or ceilings, or from behind specially designed ordinary devices you'd expect to find in the location. You can bank on wireless security cameras if you're a business owner, because if a theft occurs and the visible systems are down, you can use them to spot the guilty party and report him/her to authorities.

Wireless cameras are often powered by batteries. That is, they are used to monitor the activities of people for a limited amount of time. But unlike conventional cameras that would need a wire to be connected to both recording and power sources, wireless cameras can be easily placed in non-conspicuous places.

Lately, these cameras have been built into clocks, children's toys and other common household devices and have been nicknamed "nanny-cams." They have been called "nanny cams" for the reason that they are used to monitor the behavior of babysitters watching over small children. These poor children who cannot talk yet are often left in the care of mentally unbalanced babysitters with little patience for inquisitive toddlers.

Due to the rising incidence of these crimes, parents started using these cameras to monitor the babysitters' actions when out. Then the couple could play back the tapes and see what went on in their absence. Some of these tapes were so outrageously awful in what they captured on videotape that they led to prosecution of the adult offender and oftentimes ended up on national tabloid TV shows. But on a positive note, these awful acts of violence have made these cameras an important part of many households where young children often need adult care from people other than their parents.
