Are Guard Dogs Good Home Security?

Home security is no longer just a luxury. Statistics show that crime and burglaries are on the increase, a fact that makes home security even more critical. Thankfully, there are now many types of home security systems one can choose from. However, no matter how good they are, they are not as good as a good guard dog. For many generations, guard dogs have protected homes all around the world.

Guard dogs have helped many people keep their homes safe from thieves and burglars. Though most people are familiar with dogs, nothing is scarier than an angry dog clamping on one's ankle. The majority of guard dogs can deliver strong bites and they can seriously injure an intruder. Once they are trained to protect a home, guard dogs will stop at nothing.

If you get a guard dog, it is always good to teach him who you allow in your home. You would not want your dog to be aggressive toward family and friends. Even if most guard dogs are usually kept outdoors, some are allowed to be inside. Indoor dogs can protect your home the very moment a burglar steps in.

If you allow your dog to live inside, make sure he has food and plenty of water, especially when you are not home. It should also have a point of access to go outside if it needs to use the bathroom. You might want to consider a fenced yard for your dog to have the freedom to go in and out. Burglars often try to use service doors, which is why it would also be a good idea for the dog to have access to the outdoors.

Before you go out and purchase a dog, it would be good to do some research on the species and on the place you want to get the dog from. Police dogs and also other dogs that have been trained as guard dogs are perfect. Dobermans and Pit Bulls are a great choice too, mostly due to their reputation.

Do a little research, and then select the place where you will get the dog carefully. Try to get your dog from a source that's reputable and reliable, to make sure it is in good health and easily trainable. A guard dog can be the best type of home security system you can get, as long as it is healthy and well trained.
