Here are 10 tips to keep from being victimized by thieves

  1. Have a home security system installed and make sure the installer conceals it very well. A thief that is a professional will be on the lookout for wires and they know how to disable even the most expensive home security systems if know where it is.
  2. Make it look like you are in your house all the time. Utilize a few timers that have programmed on and off settings. Have a TV on a timer.
  3. When you'll be gone for few days or longer, ask a trusted family member or friend to house sit for you.
  4. Only let a few people know you will be away; you just don't know who may get this info.
  5. Keep your valuables in a quality safe at home in in a safe deposit box at the bank.
  6. Have the locks or tumblers changed when you move into a new home or if you lose a house key that can be traced to your home.
  7. Put a cage or an alarm on your central air conditioner. These are being taken in record numbers because they have a lot of of valuable copper that can be sold for profit.
  8. If you have a faulty alarm on your home, air conditioner or car that goes off when it shouldn't, get it fixed and then tell your neighbors you've had it fixed. A faulty alarm can cause your neighbor to ignore the sound, so they will basically be ineffective when there is a true emergency or theft.
  9. Don't allow trees or shrubbery to block windows on your home. They offer thieves cover as they attempt to break in.
  10. Don't let strangers into your home. If someone arrives at your door and asks to use your phone, keep doors locked and offer to make a call for them.

Hopefully, these tips will help in preventing a lot of the burglaries that are occurring every day in your neighborhood. Put them to use and thieves will look elsewhere for an easy target.
